I got my new camera today.
I’ve never been all that into taking pictures and, as such, it’s my very first digital camera.
However, I thought it necessary to finally get one to use for my travels to Singapore, Indo and all parts East.
I also figured this picture of my Jeep Wrangler is the most appropriate photo with which I should start my upcoming photo journal.
Why?
Miami to Phoenix. Two and one-half days. And hauling a 2500 pound trailer. Nuff said.
Man, ya’ gotta love Jeeps.

I’m happy with my Ford Explorer for the same reason. Well, almost. I can’t rent a U-Haul. But I can fit what I need with me in the car, so I can go without that. I probably like it better since I don’t have to take the car apart and put it back together based on the weather.
Several things.
1. I like the Exploer too, but for me, the only reason I can justify having an SUV (at least for the next week) is if it’s a Jeep. It’s the only SUV with character and longevity.
2. Yeah, I think I also technically wasn’t allowed to rent the Uhaul with the Jeep (being topless). Oops. For anyone from Uhaul corporate reading, I’m really sorry about that. I didn’t mean to confuse you guys by picking up the trailer with my buddies Pathfinder. My bad.
3. Removal/replacement of parts is THE absolute BEST part about owning a Jeep. It’s like growing facial hair – every day you can do something dfferent.
“What do I want today? Full beard? Goatee? Nahhh. Okay, handlebar moustache it is!”
Same thing:
“What do I want today? Doors? Roof? Windows? Windshield? Ahh, go ahead and surprise me!”
An Explorer wouldn’t have been my first choice, I’ll admit that. But I got it for under $5k so I can’t complain about that. Price over form when into this decision.
Yeah, but, how was the mileage? What was your hurry anyway? So many questions…
Congrats on the new camera. I assume these are upcoming travels you’re planning for? I hope you’ll be blogging from the road. I just love armchair travel!
Nice photo, Matt.
I had Explorer for about 8 years. The storage space was great for hauling things, roomy for napping on long road trips and not bad on gas mileage.
I always wanted a Jeep or a VW convertible because they just seemed so cool for communing with nature, next to a motorcycle, of course. You know, I had to pass because I live in Miami — not sure how safe I’d be from thieves and bad drivers and I had that Black woman don’t wanna get my hair messed up thing going on.
Perhaps you should send this post to the Jeep folks, it would make a great commercial.
