If you’re unfamiliar, Wilco is an American rock band originally started by musician and songwriter Jeff Tweedy in 1995, now mostly known for its rock, alternative rock and, sometimes, experimental style.
Personally, I beleive the band’s best work was contained on their 2002 release, “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” (YHF), which is considered by many in the music industry to be a standout in terms of innovation. Moreover, filmmaker Sam Jones caught much of the YHF-era proceedings on film and from that material released the black-and-white documentary, “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart.”
Although Wilco’s sixth (6th) studio album, “Sky Blue Sky,” is not scheduled to be released until 15 May 2007, several tracks have already been leaked onto the internet. In this regard, Fred Wilson has posted several of these new tracks on his fantastically diverse site, “A VC In NYC” – both here and here.
I’m not yet sure what to make of the new songs. I recommend you go ahead a take a listen. In the meantime, here’s a short clip of one of my favorite’s taken from the YHF documentary.
