This Fine Social Scene
I’ve noticed that my site has been slightly sparse for the past several days with respect to what one may call “substantive content.”
My apologies to all 12 of you reading along. I’ve been busy researching where I may go should I ever leave the wonderful world of Miami. I am also desperately trying to figure out what line of work I may be able to pursue outside the practice of law. Unfortunately, I’m starting to feel like Al Pacino in The Godfather Part III – “I keep trying to get out, and they keep pulling me back in.”
That being said, let’s move on. I mentioned that I’m a big fan of the band “Zero 7″ in the first of my “new” posts (I had the site up early last year, but lost over 4 months of posting when I changed over blogging applications). Although their music has been featured in numerous film and TV soundtracks, as well as various lounge music compilations, they have long flew under the radar here in the U.S.
I posted their older video for “Home” as an initial hat-tip to Chez at Deus Ex Malcontent, from whom I got the idea of posting daily videos, or as he refers to them, the “Daily Middle Finger to MTV.” Then, back in December 06, I also posted a song off of Zero 7′s latest album, Futures. On that album, they rely not only on Sia Furler for vocals, but also José González on several songs. I personally consider this to have been a masterstroke, as González has an absolutely amazing voice (especially for being a newcomer to the scene). However, the song I’m posting today, with vocals by Sia, is still my favorite off of their latest album. It’s a little bit less tripnotica than their earlier work, but it’s still some great stuff.
Zero 7 – This Fine Social Scene

Oh honey. You have no idea what Zero 7 does to me.
FYI- Chez totally seduced me with Simple Things when we first met and started dating… We play them at every party that we throw. And when we lived in Atlanta, we went to see them (yeah, they’ll perform in atlanta, but are they here in NYC???) and Sia handed out lollypops to the high-on-X audience at the beginning of the show. When she came out later, she showed off a little sundress in opposition to the jeans and t-shirt she was wearing earlier, and said that she decided to “dress up” for us. It was ADORABLE.
I’ve loved reading your writing- YES! We are out here, and we like you.
I think a big move, actually removing yourself from the place where everyone sees you as your former professional self, will help you actualize the change you want.
You gotta surf, right? There’s always California, Half Moon Bay perhaps? Or, were you thinking a little lower…Mexico? How is your Spanish?
Hi Jayne, It’s nice to hear from the better half! I haven’t seen Zero 7 or Sia live, but that must have been just awesome (You should check out Sia’s latest solo CD too). Also, great touch with the Esthero on your page. (Why didn’t I think of that?) And thank you so very much for the kind words.
Teri, Thanks for the suggestions. I’d love to go back to Cali, but it’s just too expensive right now. And despite living abroad (in Miami), my Spanish sucks. This week, I’m considering North Carolina – they’ve got surf too, right?
