It’s like the 2d or 3d night of Chanukah. But I’m a bad jew with tattoo’s and stuff, so what do I know.
I just came back from seeing the new movie “Blood Diamonds,” with Leonardo DiCaprio, Djimon Hounsou, and Jennifer Connelly.
Spoiler Alert.
Not that I really mind, but I’m not sure what I’m gonna do the next time I see a movie starring DiCaprio where his character DOESN’T die at the end of the movie.
End Spoiler Alert.
It was a pretty good movie, although I’m not sure they knew which way they wanted to go with it – love story, family drama, action film, docudrama, public service announcement about “conflict diamonds” and the excesses of the American public.
I think Edward Zwick (the writer/producer of “30 Something” back in the day) attempted to add too many elements and thusly took away from the very good performances of the cast. If Zwick edited out about 45 minutes form the end of the film, it also would have held a much greater impact in terms of establishing believability and outrage about the illicit diamond trade (which still flourishes today and is yet another great reason for never getting married). DiCaprio is known for his acting talent, but Djimon Hounsou also put in a very strong performance, as did Jennifer Connelly.
As an aside, in the spirit of “My Date With Drew,” if anyone ever happens to read this who knows anybody who knows anybody who knows Jennifer Connelly, please let her know that I’ve been a huge fan of hers dating all the way back to Labyrinth in 1986. And if she ever gets divorced, err … well, nevermind.
In the spirit of keeping up the pattern for posting videos for as long as I can think of decent songs, here’s something for this uhhh, something day of Chanukah. This is a newer song from Lily Allen, a pop artist from England signed to Regal/Parlophone (EMI). As aptly noted by Brendon over at What Would Tyler Durden Do:
Not only does she make the happiest music you’ll ever hear about having her ex boyfriend beaten up and little old ladies maybe or maybe not getting killed by muggers, she’s also the only one in music who makes any damn sense.
Here’s a link to her MySpace page, and below is what I think is one of her best songs – “LDN” (London).
