don’t know what keeps drawing me back, I just know that I need to go to India as much as I need air to breathe….besides, where I go, I’m usually the ONLY westerner, and maybe that makes all the difference…..

I agree totally. There was a French girl I met in Sri Lanka who went around in a skirt and a ‘wife beater’ undershirt with no bra, and she could not, for the life of her, realize why she was getting harassed so much - even after I told her she needed to wear another shirt covering shoulders (or at least put on a bra). Here, it’s even worse, since there’s a level of safety that they feel - like it’s ‘JUST India’, why the fuck can’t I wear revealing clothes?

Dumbasses.

As for the yoga part, I’m not saying that ALL yoga places here are bad, just that it’s a pain dealing with all the other bullshit here trying to find one that doesn’t suck. I’ve met a few peeps who have recommended places in Indo and Thailand — where I am much more comfortable — just as good.

I am a moderator of the india travel website, indiamike.com, and frankly, the way I saw the young chicky-poos dressed in cochin, kerala is exactly how foreign women should NOT dress in india.

while places like cochin and goa are foreign tourist traps, tank tops, bras hanging out, and underwear showing is not the way to respect the culture. I’m not saying that white women should wear burqas — absolutely not — but I CAN tell you that many indian men think white women are “easy”, to put it politely. #1, they get this idea from the media, and #2, from the way clueless white women dress in india. and in my three trips to india, I’ve seen a lot of clueless foreigners.
