No, Not Those Kind Of Krabi’s
I'm heading to Thailand for the weekend (Thursday through Monday), and on Tuesday I head to Bali for a month. To say that I'm pretty stoked would be the fucking understatement of the year.
In Thailand, I'll be flying into a town named "Krabi" en route to "Railay Beach." Railay is a small peninsula located between Krabi and Ao Nang accessible only by boat due to the high limestone cliffs cutting off mainland access.
Given the way the place looks in the above picture, I may not be coming back.
Ever.
Railay had some of the best rock climbing in the world which, despite my prior "issues" with the sport, I'm really looking forward to doing again.
From the main airport, for about 200 bahts, I'll be taking a bus to Ao Nang, a small town up the coast. Depending on when I get there, I may still be able to take a boat to Railay Beach. Otherwise, I'll probably stay in Ao Nang for the night and boat up to Railay on Friday morning.
The only detail is that at the time I get to Ao Nang. Depending on the tide, there may not be boats available at the main beach front. In that case I'll need to head over to the Club Pier where I can get a boat (around 800 baht) to Railay beach. Hopefully I can find 7 other people to split the costs, which may be difficult later in the afternoon when I arrive.
Once I get to Railay, I'll be landing in Railay West. I'll head over to Railay East and check in at the Yaya Resort, where my friend is apparently hooked up having been there so often. Apparently, I can get a room there with fan and cold shower for around 300 baht.
Once I get settled, I'll head to the Bamboo Bar on Railay East, where I'll be meeting my buddy when he flies in from Bangkok later in the afternoon. I love it, the bartender's name is simply “A” a local dude with dreadlocks. Apparently, he too knows my buddy really well, and will set me up while I wait.
Nice.
P.S. As I'll be traveling again, I may may be posting for a few days, at least. However, if there's internet (and I don't get killed), I'll write. If not, … well, then I guess I won't. It's actually pretty simple once you get the whole "logic" thing down (Note to evangelicals and other fanatics: you may want to try out that whole "logic" thing once in a while. With it, you can do all kinds of neat stuff like math and physics and engineering stuff. Trust me, you'll like it).

Rock climbing. You know, I’m starting to hate you. I wanna go. I might end up looking back at this as a guide for myself.
Great pictures. Sounds like all is well. You really should do your best to find a small village that has never seen an American and try to get them to make you their god. Tell them that your camera can steal their soul, or simply crush their village under your gargantuan feet.
You know, after what you’ve already been through, if you do go rock climbing again and it actually kills you this time, I will personally nominate you for a Darwin Award.
Make me proud, honey!
dude,,,my former bf and i went to samat islands two years ago,….fuckin awesome!! Have a awesome trip I’m jealous
the chance you will ever get this is slim… but anyway.
Nice blog, i stumbled upon it searching for info on Krabi. I will be traveling from Chiang Mai to the beaches of Thailand for the first time this Nov. How do i best avoid “those” westerners you mentioned?
Im an american as well but i would like to resist falling into the ranks of the over-indulgent, self-righteous as much as possible. if you get a chance, names of places to stay that were good general tips for the first time traveler etc.
Cheers
