The Photography of Tim McKenna
I've been asked where in the world is the break that's posted above as my main site header. That is from a place in French Polynesia known as "Tuamotu". French Polynesia is composed of hundreds of islands and atolls. The remote Tuamotu Archipelago to the north east of Tahiti is not a common destination because of its remoteness and lack of tourist facilities. Nonetheless, it is home to some of the best, uncrowded surf spots to be found anywhere.
This photo was taken in 2005 during one of the large northerly swells, using a panoramic camera. It is among the many, many, maaaaaany absolutely stunning photos contained in the portfolio of Tim McKenna, probably the best surf and outdoor photographer in the world.
If you are seeking a true vision of paradise, I urge you to look at Mr. McKenna's portfolio. His photos are some of the most compelling evidence that paradise does exist on Earth. His sense of color, shading, blocking and, of course, the subject matter often defy description.
Some of his photos bring tears to my eyes. Like this one of Teahupoo (pronounced "Cho-poo"), probably the most beautiful wave in the world.

i want to live in those photos. you know i agree with most of your post on my site. but i think people have been misinterpreting my whole “i never go out with the guys anyway line.” i was speaking about what i have done in the past, and am in fact, planning to try it for real down here. anywho, the whole reason i did the cross-promotion thing was to weed out the ones who are just looking for silent arm candy so that i could actually choose to go out with guys who are not only interested in my looks but also my personality and life, expressed via my blog.
Re. your “grass is always greener” theme. i try to share the same theme on my blog, albeit in a totally different way. what i try to express is (because a lot of my readers are media types (underpaid, working stiffs), non-Jews with not a lot of disposable income) that even if you have money, the finest clothes, jewelry etc. that life still is not a bowl of cherries. most people seem to miss this underlying theme and just prefer to attack my “superficial” lifestyle. when essentially though i have “everything” i could ever want re. material things, my family and friends are who I would die without. I could be happy on an island with a bathing suit, lotion and flip-flops. esp. if the waves look like that guys pictures.
one last thing re. your pursuit of happiness: why not try the aclu or the adl, or any sort of non-profit like that. i’m a lawyers daughter and i personally think there is great value in the profession, if you can find your niche. just a thought.
It’s funny, I didn’t pick up on the “superficial lifestyle” theme. I see your writing, in large part, as simply doing what makes sense to you. Perhaps it’s cuz I’m trying to think the same way. As for the ACLU or ADL, that’s an interesting thought. One of many I’m going to give thought to over the next few weeks.
And yes, places like those in the pics do exist - far away from the bowels of NY and Miami. Have a happy and peaceful new year.
